Cerumen, or ear wax, can be removed from the ear canal so that it does not interfere with listening or comfort, especially for individuals who wear hearing aids. Our audiologists are skilled at mechanical and irrigation cerumen removal.
Counseling on the use and care of your hearing aids
Our audiologists are available to help you with problems you may be having with your hearing aids. They can also spend time with you and discuss ways to make listening with hearing aids easier in your day-to-day life. Family members are welcome and encouraged to come with you and learn about your hearing aids. Where does this lead to?
Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations
Our audiologists are licensed and certified to perform complete diagnostic hearing evaluations. This is generally the first step to identifying your hearing capabilities. The diagnostic hearing evaluation is more in depth than free screenings and our audiologists will evaluate all parts of your ear using state of the art equipment.
Specialized Telecommunication Assistance Program (STAP)
Northeast Houston Hearing Services is a vendor for the Specialized Telecommunications Assistive Program (STAP) which offers FREE amplified phones and phone devices for Texas residents with hearing loss. Our audiologists will be happy to meet with you and certify you for a phone device that meets you hearing needs.
Swim molds, musician earmolds, noise protection, and other specialty ear pieces
Ear pieces are not just for hearing aids. Our audiologists are skilled at taking perfect ear impressions for whatever your needs are. Musicians are often exposed to high levels of music for extended times and need musician earplugs or in ear monitors. Many occupations such as construction workers, require custom made ear protection.
Hearing Aid Fitting
At the hearing aid fitting you will receive your new hearing aids. To determine the optimum settings for your hearing aids, our audiologists use the results of your hearing test results as well as your personal impression of how well you can hear. This initial fitting appointment is completed using a sophisticated software program.
Once your hearing aids have been fitted to your complete satisfaction, we will provide you with detailed information on how they should be maintained. Of course, you can have your hearing aids checked by us at any time. This will ensure that the sound quality remains as good as ever, and will extend the life of your aids.
Hearing Aid Repairs
Some minor hearing aid repairs can be done in the office setting in a short period of time; others will need to be sent to the manufacturer for repair. Your hearing professional can help determine what kind of a repair is necessary if you feel your hearing aid is not working properly.
Hearing Aid Evaluation and Selection
During a hearing aid evaluation, you will meet with one of our audiologists who will discuss with you the different styles, colors, technologies, and benefits to wearing hearing aids. You may be shown different styles or have the opportunity to try different hearing aids in the office. Custom impressions may be taken of your ears, depending on the style of hearing aid chosen.
Hearing Evaluations for Children
A hearing evaluation for a child is often different than a hearing test for an adult. For this reason, our audiologists are trained in specific techniques to evaluate the hearing of a child. Toys, games, and lights are used in the testing room to help obtain responses from a child.
In Office Services
We encourage ongoing cleaning and maintenance after your hearing aid purchase to ensure you receive optimum performance and benefit from your hearing aid(s). We encourage all our patients to come in for regular hearing aid check-ups and cleaning.
Repairs, Maintenance, Cleanings, and Warranties come with all brands of hearing aids. We offer in-office repairs when possible on most makes/models.
Live Speech Mapping
Live Speech Mapping is a fitting process that uses probe microphones and live real-time speech to allow the patient and their family members to immediately see and understand the benefits of hearing aids and fitting adjustments.
Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOE) Testing
The otoacoustic emission test is an objective measurement of your inner ear’s delicate hair cells which relay electrical activity to the hearing nerve. It only takes a minute or two and further determines what type of hearing loss you have. Otoacoustic emission testing is generally conducted as part of the Diagnostic Hearing Evaluation.
Tinnitus Evaluation and Management
Tinnitus is described as a ringing in the ear, and can range in severity. A tinnitus evaluation can help you identify how much tinnitus interferes with your daily life and if there are treatment options that can benefit you.
Tympanometry is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones, by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal.
